# Triton Machine Initialization

> Setup and start-up your scanner

<h2 id="triton-access-levels">
  Triton access levels
</h2>

The Triton interface features two distinct user login levels to streamline shop-floor operations while safeguarding system configuration and advanced scanning tools.

1. **Operator mode:** Designed for production technicians and floor operators running routine inspection workflows. This mode limits access to essential operational tools including executing predefined Triton Programs, reviewing project History, and checking baseline system status via minimal Diagnostics.
2. **Supervisor mode:** Designed for engineers, lab leads, and administrators. Supervisors retain full Operator functionality while unlocking elevated operational capabilities including [**Application Development Mode**](/triton/triton-scanning-application-development-mode) for single part scans and the full Diagnostics menu for deep troubleshooting and health monitoring.

### Feature comparison

| **Feature / Access**             | **Operator Mode** | **Supervisor Mode** |
| :------------------------------- | :---------------- | :------------------ |
| **Run Triton Programs**          | Yes               | Yes                 |
| **View Scan History**            | Yes               | Yes                 |
| **Machine Diagnostics**          | Basic             | Advanced            |
| **Application Development Mode** | No                | Yes                 |

## Quick start guide

### Start-up procedure

1. **Server power:** Connect the on-premise server to a grounded outlet (120-240V, 50-60 Hz, 1800 W max)
2. **System power:** Connect the system to a grounded outlet (120-240V, 50-60 Hz, 1800 W max)
3. **Network connectivity:** Connect the system high-speed Ethernet port
4. **Compressed air supply:** Connect the Triton to an air supply with an operating pressure of between 85 and 95 psi
5. **Switch:** Toggle the both server and system power switches to the ON position (you may need to wait up to 30 minutes for the server to fully boot up)
6. **Key activation:** Insert the physical Access Key and rotate it to the “Enable” position
7. **Login:** Once the touchscreen turns on, you will be prompted to enter a password to access the scanner dashboard

### System checks before initialization

Check the following areas to ensure that the system is ready to accept its first scan:

1. **Enable X-rays:** X-ray key is installed and turned to the right (“ON” position)
2. **Verify green indicator lights:**
   1. GREEN “Ready” light near infeed
   2. GREEN stack light indicator
3. **Wi-Fi connectivity:** Two minutes after powering on, the online indicator on the scanner Human Machine Interface (HMI) should be GREEN

### Initialization steps

There are two steps required periodically before scanning. Select "START" on the main menu to complete these two initialization steps:

* **X-ray source warmup (“Warm System”):** Before starting a scan, the X-ray source must warm to reach stable operating conditions. Warmup time can range from under a minute to over an hour, depending on how long the source has been off since the previous scan
* **Motion stage homing (“Home System”):** Upon system startup or after a power cycle, you must initialize the motion system. The gantry will move to establish a precise baseline for all subsequent measurements and part positioning.

<Warning>
  **Important:** If you experience a collision or have engaged the Emergency Stop (E-Stop), a manual re-home is required to restore system integrity. Again, ensure that all parts and fixtures have been removed from the scanner before rehoming.
</Warning>
