# Labs - 2D Dimensioning

> Create feature-based measurements on slices of 3D reconstructions with the 2D Dimensioning Labs App

The 2D Dimensioning App is a Voyager Labs tool for CT metrology on slices of 3D reconstructions that is actively being developed. It lets you detect or construct reference features on slice data, create more repeatable measurements, and export or publish annotated results for downstream review.

<Warning>
  NOTE: As of March 2026, Labs supports both Cloud and On-Prem environments. GovCloud is not yet supported. If you do not see Labs in your toolbar, contact your admin or [support@lumafield.com](mailto:support@lumafield.com).

  Accessing the 2D Dimensioning App
</h2>

1. Open a Project in Voyager.
2. Select **Labs** from the toolbar.
3. Launch **2D Dimensioning** from the Labs app list.
4. Load an image plane to start dimensioning.

If no compatible image planes are available, upload or [generate](https://support.lumafield.com/voyager/voyager-data-objects-and-workflows#promote-slice) the required data object first, then relaunch the App.

The standard flow in 2D Dimensioning is:

1. **Load Image Plane** and frame the area of interest.
2. Create references with **Find** or **Construct** tools.
3. Add dimensional checks with **Measure** tools.
4. Review annotations, labels, and values.
5. Save, export, or publish the result.

<h3 id="find">
  Find
</h3>

Use Find tools to detect geometry from image intensity and local structure:

* **Peak**
* **Line**
* **Circle**
* **Intersect**

These tools are useful when image-derived features should drive your dimension references. Finding tools rely on industry standard fitting algorithms such as max gradient calculation and RANSAC refinement.

<h3 id="construct">
  Construct
</h3>

Use Construct tools to create explicit geometric entities:

* **Point**
* **Line**
* **Circle**

Constructed entities can be reused as references for multiple measurements. Hold shift to snap lines to cardinal directions.

<h3 id="measure">
  Measure
</h3>

Use Measure tools to capture dimensional outputs directly from found and/or constructed geometry:

* **Distance**
* **Perpendicular**
* **Angle**
* **Diameter**
* **Concentricity**

Tip: shift your unit display with the unit control at the bottom of the app.

2D Dimensioning supports multiple output paths:

* **Save/Open Measurements** to preserve and resume a measurement session
* **Export Image** to generate an annotated PNG
* **Export CSV** for tabular measurement values
* **Publish to Project** to write outputs back into the Project for team visibility

* Start from the image plane where edges are most stable and interpretable.
* Use found features for data-driven references, then construct geometry for repeatable checks.
