Region of Interest

The benefits of ROI authoring.

Regions of Interest (ROI) are useful features to allow you to focus on specific areas of your scans. Using this authoring feature, you can zoom in on specific regions, exclude others, and chain tools into a workflow. To see step-by-step instructions on using the feature, see How to author a region of interest (ROI).

Benefits of using the ROI include:

  • Align the scan to a specific, user defined coordinate system
  • Enhance the resolution of specific areas of your scan via digital zoom
  • Enhance contrast by excluding high or low-density materials
  • Renormalize your resulting Volume to a specific portion of the data.

See below for examples of these benefits.

Alignment

ROI-Alignment

On the left, the original reconstruction inherets the fixturing angle. On the right, the aligned ROI shows the scan as axis algined.

Enhanced Resolution

ROI-Zoom

On the left, the original reconstruction shows signs of pixelation. On the right, the ROI shows enhanced resoltuion around the areas of porosity.

Enhanced Contrast

ROI-EnhanceContrast

By drawing an ROI around specific materials, you can eliminate outliers and enhance the contrast between only those items in the ROI.

To see step-by-step instructions on the use of the feature, see How to author a region of interest (ROI).
